Gillian Shippey

Gillian began practicing yoga in the 1990s whilst training at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance, then travelled to India to study Advaita at the Krishnamurti Foundation. She also studied at the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram and began teaching soon after.

In 2006 she took a year off to recover from a brain haemorrhage and brain surgery, which led her to practice and study Yoga Nidra. She teaches on Uma Dinsmore-Tuli’s Yoga Nidra Immersion courses, and assists on their Total Yoga Nidra Facilitator’s training, Womb Yoga and Yoga for Menopause courses. She also teaches Yoga Therapy, Pregnancy Yoga, Birth Preparation and Baby Yoga and has completed further training in neuroscience, philosophy and therapeutic applications to yoga Nidra, structural anatomy, yoga and emotional conflict, restorative yoga, Vedic chanting, mudra, pranayama, meditation and mindfulness. She has a particular interest in using yoga to affect the brain neuroplasticity to help soothe the nervous system.  She also uses music and storytelling within Yoga Nidra as a therapeutic tool.

Gillian has a busy life with her 10-year-old son and their dog and is currently enjoying learning Capoeira and to play the harp!
